Stitching Spotswood

This collection of works was exhibited as part of the Hobson’s Bay Art in Public Places program.

Stitching Spotswood was shown at the brilliant Duchess of Spotswood from the 29th March until the 3rd May, 2015.

Spotswood holds a particular place in the life of the west. In a way it has been the lost suburb, a place few people – except for the community of folk who have spent their lives living and working there – seemed to have cared too much about. All that has changed as Spotswood is swept up in the radical transformations happening all across the west.

The industrial make-up of Spotswood makes it a location rich with imagery for me as an artist who is compulsively attracted to the forms, structures and colours of industry. These images capture glimpses of Spotswood that are probably soon to disappear forever as residential development takes hold.
